The centre piece of my triptych is the above piece, the one that spawned the series. Together with no.6, it is my favourite, because I just love the drips. Now, I had been photographing tags in the gritty corners of Montreal before this, but it was while shooting on this location that I finalized my idea for the series.
The location is a a large service door for one of the city's highways. I discovered it by accident, while doing a really dull group assignment (well, they made it dull), and it really isn't obvious. When I returned, it was a cold, rainy day. The atmosphere was something special, an urban melancholy, some kind of loneliness — I loved it. On this door (fig. 2), was one guy's tag, being practiced over and over. I can't quite make it out, because of a couple of ambiguous letters. There was also a love poem, that read:
Through grey
Through blue
My heart stays with you
It was signed with 'Never forget me.' That, combined with the repetition of the tags on the door (and, indeed, the nature and purpose of tagging), led me to name my series Forget Me Not. I believe it fit the mood of the place, as well.
