Architectural Spoil

A quick watercolour I did for my history of structures class. It was an assignment to explore the possibilities of architectural spoils — a subject which fascinates me. I had to make it a collage, though, and one can see the original element is the far left window. The window is from a watercolour (artist unknown) of the private apartments of S.M. l' ImpĂ©ratrice JosĂ©phine at the Palais des Tuilleries. I wanted to make it into a wall for the tea room. At 12"x8" it is almost the size of the watercolour from whence the window came, which went for $275 on Christies ... I wish I had bought it. Completed April 14, 2011 on Arches 140lb.

Not for sale.
