Sketches

The title page to my sketchbook for a History of Structures class. I was being a bit cheeky, creating this. When I was studying architecture, briefly, we were all in a brutalist building. All the professors went on about was Le Corbusier and Peter Zumthor. I thought, what would be the furthest thing from that? The baroque, probably.

It simply reads: Sketches. The writing is of a Dutch baroque hand, so it could be no more flourished. The s's are f's (long s's), in the style of the day, and the first one is by the master penman, Cornelis Dirckenzoon Boissens. To my embarrassment— an embarrassment that my mum assures me no one would even notice — long s's are only supposed to be place inside words; short s's are for the ends. Oh well. The rest of the letters are my own imagination. It took about 5 hours to write this, and was completed April 14, 2011 on 8"x12" Arches 140lb.

Not for sale.
