Pierre de Wiessant, one of Rodin's Burghers of Calais, in deep, morbid thought. Rodin once commented, "To model shadows is to create thought." Indeed. I drew this for a friend of mine, at his request. He is something of a philosopher, so I thought that it would be appropriate to draw something to do with contemplation. Measuring 15"x20", it was the largest work I had done at the time. It's all in graphite, with only four touches of an eraser, in the two hundred hours it took to create. I completed the drawing August 21, 2009, when I was 17. It is the earliest work I will post.
Not for sale.
